Little Blue Canoe Blog

Fall Recipe Roundup - a Guest Post by Blogger, Justine Celina Maguire

One of the coolest things about starting Little Blue Canoe, was realizing how small the world is and how fun it is when paths start crossing and colliding. After meeting the lovely Kelsey Santucci (who did this fabulous Guest Post) earlier this summer, I would follow along to see what she was up to via Instagram. When Kelsey was getting married, I would follow her wedding hashtag, and I kept coming across lovely posts by Kelsey's dear friend, Justine Maguire (@justinecelina). I started following Justine and loved how she always came across on social media. Classy, fashionable, smart and friendly. The odd time we would swap comments on Instagram (usually about Kelsey's amazing wedding), so I reached out to see if we could meet. Sure enough, Justine was all those things I had thought she was, and more, in real life (I LOVE when that happens!). I am so thrilled that she agreed to do a guest post of four of her amazing fall inspired recipes for you to enjoy. Please take a moment to read her post and then go get in the kitchen and create! I would love for you to circle back with updates on how your recipes turned out.

Thanks, and enjoy!

xo Kelly

Hey, everyone! I'm Justine Celina Maguire, and I run a Canadian lifestyle blog called It’s nice to e-meet you! I was so excited when Kelly invited me to do a guest post here at Little Blue Canoe. Today, I'll be sharing four of my favourite seasonal recipes in this Fall Recipe Roundup!

I decided to start blogging in 2015 as way to share my interests and passions with like minded women (and men!). is a Canadian lifestyle blog with a creative eye for beauty, fashion, food, travel, music, design and DIY. I focus on living an inspired, well balanced life.

I like to put a creative spin on my blog and infuse my personal brand into every aspect of my content -- both written and visual. I've been a creative director, designer, and stylist for eight years (gulp!), so my content is backed by years of professional experience and passion. I hope you’ll stop by sometime!

I eat a pretty clean, plant-based diet — I’m passionate about promoting a healthy lifestyle that’s attainable. I believe in proper nutrition, and eating real, delicious food that’s nourishing at the same time! All of these recipes are vegan, gluten and refined sugar free, and packed full of awesome, fresh ingredients. My recipes are simple and seasonal — perfect to make after a weekend grocery run or trip to the farmer’s market. And, they’re family friendly.

If you try any of my recipes, I’d love it if you leave me a comment and let me know how you liked them! If you Instagram, feel free to use the tag #justinecelinarecipes, so I can find your recreations. You can also find me on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Bloglovin’

And, if you’re looking for more recipe inspiration, you can follow my Recipe Board on Pinterest — I’m always coming up with new recipes!

Thanks for taking the time to learn a little bit more about my content, and have a fantastic Sunday.

~ Justine

When life gives you lemons; you find some apples, carrots, and ginger -- then you make this delicious juice! It's such an easy recipe that I almost didn’t want to share, but this is one of my all-time favourite fresh juices. Sometimes simple really is best. Enjoy this little bit of sunshine in a glass whenever you need a quick dose of vitamins and antioxidants to cleanse your digestive system and rev up your metabolism. I make it often, since I usually have these ingredients on hand -- it always makes me feel great and gives me tons of energy.

I love to make soup in the fall, and squash based soups are my favourite. So, I decided to take all the delicious things I had in my kitchen that were in fresh and in season, and roast them with warming, autumnal spices. I picked up tons of squash and apples at a fresh food market in Creston, BC recently (where they grow their produce on a farm right behind the market), and I combined them with carrots, onions, and some rhubarb from my friend Heather's garden (you can't eat more local than that!). I also roasted the squash seeds and use them for a garnish! This soup is the ultimate autumn comfort food -- hearty, nourishing and velvety smooth. It's an ultra clean, simple recipe that’s warming, rich in texture, and brimming with a delicious autumn flavour profile.

This fall, I've been really into making my own pumpkin puree (it's easy, and I tell you how I do it in the post!). It's so much better than store-bought. One day when I was experimenting, I tried some in a smoothie, combined with sweet and creamy persimmon, and spicy fall flavours like fresh ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves. This is one of my favourite smoothies yet -- it tastes like an indulgent treat, but it's brimming with healthy, nourishing ingredients! Next time you're craving a pumpkin dessert, try whipping up this smoothie instead -- it will totally satisfy your craving, and nourish your body at the same time! It actually reminds me of a delicious Pumpkin Trifle that my boyfriend's Mom makes for the holidays.

I created this fresh juice recipe during my Sober September — yes, I gave up wine for a whole month! If you’re interested in reading more about it, check this post out. Since I wasn’t drinking, I was inspired to step up my juicing game — and my Peppered Pear Elixir was born! It's a sweet n' spicy, aromatic juice brimming with a medley of awesome detoxifying ingredients like Bartlett pears, peppers, celery, apples, ginger and lime. Enjoy this elixir on a fall morning while Bartlett pears are in season, and kick-start your day!
