A smoothie you’ll really Fall for, the Avo-Pear.
Hello Little Blue Canoe Fans! My name is Kelsey.
Fall is by far my favourite time of the year. Unfortunately, it is probably the shortest season in Canada.
The season comes with a bounty of delicious produce and I enjoy coming up with new recipes to highlight them.
I love to experiment with smoothie and juice combinations by adding different fruits and vegetables. One of my fall favourites is the pear. Read along to find out why you should try making this smoothie at home.
Besides the clear fact that pears are juicy and delicious, they are extremely beneficial to your body. Did you know that the skin of a pear contains 3 to 4 times phytonutrients as its flesh? These phytonutrients include antioxidants and anti-inflammatories (Antioxidants are natural compounds to fight off the bad stuff in our bodies and keep your heart healthy. Anti-inflammatories are foods that are low in sugar). So, while you're prepping for this smoothie, cut your pear into cubes and leave the skin on! The skin of a pear also contains about half of the pear's dietary fibre. That being said, this smoothie has a whole lot of fibre.
I always encourage adding vegetables into your smoothies. The avocado in this smoothie adds a silky smooth texture and healthy fats. The taste is masked by the pear and vanilla, making this a great smoothie option for kids who are picky vegetable eaters. I blend it all together with unsweetened almond milk because it's a low calorie option and dairy free.
I have a lot of fun in the kitchen and I am always blending up new smoothies and juice ideas. I'm also a big fan of nature, and being outdoors is a passion of mind. 1 whole pear cubed and frozen
1/2 fresh avocado
1 1/4 cup of unsweetened original almond milk
1/4 tsp. of vanilla extract
Cut one whole pear into cubes and freeze it in a ziploc bag. You can make as many frozen bags as you like ahead of time so they are always on hand.
Combine all ingredients into a blender. Blend until smooth.
Makes 1 mason jar size serving.
