Vendor Spotlight - Five Questions with Emerson Apparel

I am thrilled for you to get to know Jessica Frank. Jess is the owner of one of our amazing kids clothing companies, 'Emerson Apparel'. Jess was another person I touched base with early on when I was starting LBC. She had wonderful clothes, but also a really incredible energy about her. She instantly came across as kind, passionate and sincere. I felt so happy when she said "YES!" to working with me. I had the pleasure of meeting this lovely lady (and her precious little girl, Emerson) a few weeks ago while I was in Vancouver for a wedding. She was just as lovely in "real life", as she was in the virtual world. Please enjoy getting to know her a bit more!

1. Little Blue Canoe feels so fortunate to be working with you! Please tell us a bit more about yourself.

Hello! My name is Jessica and I design and own Emerson Apparel. We are a unique, stylish, and well-made kids clothing company, handmade in Vancouver BC. I was born in NYC and raised in Los Angeles. I moved with my husband to Vancouver almost four years ago, and shortly after we had our daughter, Emerson. I’ve worked in the fashion industry for years before starting my kids label right after my daughter was born. I saw the need for truly stylish and well-made kids clothing once I had my daughter, and with a little faith and a whole lot of hard work, Emerson Apparel came to be.

2. I love your products. Please tell us how
Emerson Apparel came to be.

Thank you so much for your continued love and support, Kelly! Emerson Apparel is a true labor of love - for my love of all free-spirited children, and for my deep all-consuming love for my child. After she was born, I desperately wanted to stay at home with my daughter and raise her full-time. I was fortunate enough to be afforded that luxury. But, I also wanted a creative outlet - something that was my own. So I decided to start Emerson Apparel from my living room. I believe that we, as parents, don’t need to surrender quality, functionality or style when it comes to purchasing clothing for our children. We can have it all. Emerson Apparel is just that - practical, fashionable, and made to last.

3. Oh Canada! What do you love about this great Country and why?

Even though I’m from the states, I have never felt community like I have experienced in BC. Furthermore, Vancouver feels more like home to me than LA ever did. The people have such a realness and sincerity about them - it’s inspiring and truly heart warming. Also, I’ve never seen a more beautiful place. The fact that I can see ocean, city-scape, and snow capped mountains all at once outside of my window blows me away.

4. Time to shop! Aside from your own products, what do you love in the LBC store?

You don’t have to ask me twice to shop! That Oreo cookie teether from Shop Glitter & Spice is *so* cute! I’m also majorly crushing on all of the wooden pieces by From The Seeds. To be honest, everything available on Little Blue Canoe is amazing. I want one of each, pretty please! :)

5. Please finish this sentence: “You know you are in Canada when...” start the morning with a hike in Lynn Canyon, have lunch at the market on Granville Island, spend the afternoon walking along with Sea Wall, and meet your friends for dinner and live music in Gastown. Nature meets City... The blessings of BC!
